As we were given our new groups for the Fragrance Module, we had a day learning about teamwork and how to sustain it throughout a whole project. In our seminar with Alison Coward, we had to take the '16 Personalities Test' to find out what role we play within a team.

After about 10 minutes and lots of questions, I was given ‘The Advocate’. The two main features were; my role which is ‘the diplomat’ and my strategy, which is ‘confident individualism’. I think the test came out pretty accurate especially when looking at the strengths and weaknesses. Being an advocate within a group means that I value harmony, conflicts within a group should be kept purely work-based and not be influenced by personal reasons. Democracy is important to me as I see myself as a very fair person. When in a group I think everyone should have the chance to express their ideas without being shut down by other loud and seemingly more ‘powerful’ people as I think these people often hold the most creative and articulate ideas. I can admire extroverts but not when they let their voice become the only thing filling the group’s conversation. I think everyone is equal in a group and should be treated as such.

Creativity to me is the most important thing to have in a group environment, a chance to be wrong or weird or whatever because it shouldn’t matter. Having a group of people that understand its okay to just let go and get inspired. However it is really important they feel comfortable enough to do so as I think you can feel quite venerable doing so sometimes. That’s why I think humility is really important in groups, realising we’re all human so having empathy is key.

I also think it’s important within a group to have varied styles, passions, and interests otherwise the same ideas will be churned out. My group for fragrance is nice and varied, it’s clear we all have different styles and each prefer different stages of the FCP process. This will help us throughout the project as we will all be needed at different stages to input our own expertise.
